Hicks Denies DIC Talks

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has dismissed fresh reports suggesting that he and George Gillett are preparing to sell the club to Dubai International Capital.

Tom HicksThe American duo only took charge at Anfield one year ago, but have already alienated some sections of the Reds supporters due to a falling-out with manager Rafael Benitez. However, Hicks has reiterated his long-term commitment to the club amid rumours of renewed interest from DIC.

A statement from Hicks read: “Reports that I am about to sell my stake in Liverpool Football Club, or to invite DIC to examine the club’s books in preparation for such a sale – like other such reports planted in the UK press in recent weeks by parties with their own self-interested agenda – are absolutely and categorically false.”

“The reality is that I am personally, professionally and financially committed to the club and its supporters and that I will continue to honour that commitment to the best of my ability now and in the future.”

Hicks and Benitez have patched up their differences in recent weeks, with the Spaniard recently commenting: “My relationship with Tom is good and I don’t have a problem.

“It was a misunderstanding before and I think he understands all the things I was telling him before. I am a fighter, I have always been a fighter so, when we had the problems, I was fighting. When everything was much better I was really focused. I don’t have any concerns. I am trying to concentrate on football.”
